Seniors First BC Society (SFBC) is a non-profit charitable organization, established in 1994, dedicated to serving low-income seniors in British Columbia. SFBC provides free help to older adults through 6 programs: the Seniors Abuse Information Line (SAIL), legal programs, Victim Services program and the Education and Outreach program.

SFBC is looking for an energetic part-time designated paralegal located in the Lower Mainland to join our team, assist senior renters in Vancouver, and occasionally help with other legal projects.

Job Title: Paralegal

Start Date: October 2026

Employment Type:  6-month Contract

Salary: $28/hr, depending on hours worked, skills and experience.

Hours: Part-Time 14hrs per week

Reports to: Supervising Lawyer/Executive Director

Job Summary

The paralegal will provide legal information, summary advice and representation to older adults of limited means. Client files are mainly residential tenancy issues for renters in Vancouver. The paralegal may also assist with other legal issues, including wills interviews and advance planning drafting, under the supervision of a lawyer.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct client interviews in person, and assess and analyze legal problems
• Provide legal advice on housing issues under the supervision of SFBC staff lawyer
• Draft legal submissions and correspondence on behalf of clients
• Negotiates settlements (when appropriate)
• Represent clients in hearings before the Residential Tenancy Branch
• Works collaboratively with all our other programs.
• May assist with wills and estates drafting as well (training may be provided).

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in law or social sciences, or other related field
• Excellent advocacy and problem solving skills
• Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written
• Understanding of trauma-informed approach and working with marginalized communities
• Cultural competency and ability to work with older adults from various cultural communities
• Understanding of the Residential Tenancy Act.
• Prior experience working in the social justice sector is an asset
• The ability speak languages other than English is an asset

Additional Information

The successful applicant will be expected to work at our downtown office at least once per week, and at another community partner’s office in Vancouver.
