September 30th is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. On this day, we recognize the resilience, dignity, and achievements of survivors and intergenerational survivors of Residential Schools, Day schools, and Indian hospitals, and honour the children who never returned home.
Our office will be closed on Monday, September 30th, 2024 to observe the statutory holiday and will resume service the following day, Tuesday, October 1st, 2024. Callers to our Seniors Abuse & Information Line (1-866-437-1940) can leave a voice message and receive a call-back when we re-open.
September 30th is also Orange Shirt Day, which is an Indigenous-led commemorative day that brings awareness to the inter-generational impacts of residential schools, and promotes the concept of "Every Child Matters". On this day, all Canadians are encouraged to wear orange to honour the thousands of Survivors of residential schools.
Seniors First BC is a charitable, non-profit society that provides information, advocacy, and support to seniors across BC who are dealing with issues affecting their well-being.
