Book Release: Elder Abuse in the LGBTQ2SA+ Community

Researchers at Simon Fraser University—Claire Robson, Gloria Gutman, Jen Marchbank, and Makaela Prentice—have released a new book titled Elder Abuse in the LGBTQ2SA+ Community - The Impact of Homophobia and Transphobia.

This book raises awareness about the invisible problem of elder abuse in the LGBTQ2SA+ community. It features stories of 9 elder abuse survivors in the community, and offers support to other survivors and encouragement for them to share their stories

As a part of the release, the researchers will be sharing their findings at a free Townhall and Book Launch event held at the Newton Seniors' Centre (13775 70 Ave) in Surrey on February 12th, 2024 from 2pm to 4pm. The event also provides an opportunity to learn about new research and implications for practice and how to recognize elder abuse, as well as meet the authors.

Register for the event here. Read an interview with the researchers about the book here.
